In Memory of Cole
In loving memory of one so special, who’s light we lost far too soon
Cole Sprogis was the center of his loving family and filled with joy. Cole loved classical music, so it was played often in his classroom, at home, and on long road trips with his family as they travelled across the US and Canada. Cole never missed his brother and twin sister’s soccer games. Growing up they loved being in the water together. The whole family supported Cole on his adaptive bike, riding around the block and in the Tour de Palm Springs.
“Cole’s smile would light up a room and he did that often at UCPIE. Whether Cole, known as the Colester by those who loved him, was participating in the annual Bowl A Thon, riding his bike with Team Freedom in the Tour de Palm Springs or attending other UCPIE special events like Champagne Lunch at the Ritz Carlton… Cole was everywhere and enhanced everyone’s life who met him.
Cole will be sorely missed… and very much so by me!” – Greg Wetmore
“Cole touched the lives of those around him. His smile could light up any room. His loving family made all things possible for him. Cole was part of UCPIE’s Team Freedom. He rode the one-mile leg of the Tour de Palm Springs for several years on his own adaptive bike. His family not only supported him and loved him, they gave back so other children could ride alongside Cole. The Sprogis family are in my heart, they remind me every day that with love and support all children can live a life without limits.” – Sofia Campos

“When I met Cole he made an impression on me because he had the biggest smile, and it was contagious. I could see he was loved by everyone around him, and he gave love back. Cole has an amazing and supportive family that encouraged him to shine. When he wanted something, he made it known, as you spent time with him you learned to understand his cues. You also learned that he was fully aware of his surroundings. He knew when he was listening to classical music or when someone was reading one of his favorite Berenstain Bear or Micky & Minnie Mouse books to him. Cole showed you he had his own thoughts and was a happy person. He also made everyone around him happy too.
A few years ago, Cole attended our annual holiday celebration and I remember shopping for his gift. We meticulously looked for the softest throw we could find. We just knew Cole would enjoy his soft blanket during the holidays. Cole will always be remembered for his happy spirit.” – Lizette Moreno
“Cole’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. The bond between Cole and his family was so strong, and this will never fade. I’m so sorry for your loss.” – Calista Vassios
Though we need to weep your loss,
You dwell in that safe place in our hearts,
Where no storm or night or pain can reach you
Let us not look for you only in memory,
Where we would grow lonely without you.
You would want us to find you in brightness,
When kindness glows
And music echoes eternal tones.
-John O’Donohue
“There are no words I have to express the pain and hurt I have after hearing about Cole’s passing. It feels like it was just yesterday, when I first met Cole. The smile on his face is still fresh in my mind. His laughter is and forever will be on repeat in my memory. Cole was the definition of happiness and joy. I loved Cole, even as my own. If you asked anyone, they would tell you the dedication I had for him was strong and unreal. There wasn’t anything I wouldn’t have done for him.
Cole, I will never forget all the times we spent together. Whether it was listening to your playlist that I made for you on my phone, or you kicking me for fun while thinking it was the most hilarious thing in the world – and I thought it was the cutest thing. Out of the corner of my eye, all I saw were little legs and feet going at light speed kicking me. You made an impeccable impact on my life, believe it or not, buddy. My life will never be the same. I truly enjoyed caring for you. Even if we were just hanging out. The days I was off and did not watch you, there was always a voice in my head asking, “I wonder if Cole had enough to eat today?” or “I wonder how Cole is doing today?” Up until I heard the heart-breaking news, I would still ask those questions and turn to my fiancé and say “I wonder how Cole is doing? I miss him very much.”
You were more than a client or job to me… you were family. I never knew I could care so much for a child who wasn’t mine. I love you, Cole. You were and always will be my little buddy. My heart hurts so much. I fell to my knees when I was told you were not with us anymore.
To Mr. and Mrs. Sprogis and the rest of the Sprogis Family, I am so sorry for this tragic loss. My heart is hurting and grieving with you all. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of Cole’s life. It was a huge blessing to be a part of Cole’s life. Rest in peace my little buddy.” – Claudia Luna
