Autism Awareness Month 2024

Just four weeks into my new role at United Cerebral Palsy of the Inland Empire (UCPIE), I found myself standing before a crowd of 6000 enthusiastic fans at the Firebirds game, alongside two remarkable individuals, Ryan and Andres. It was an unforgettable moment that epitomized the impact we can create when our community comes together.

Ryan, at 16, and Andres, at 19, were about to receive custom adaptive bikes, courtesy of UCPIE and the Firebirds. The excitement in the air was palpable, and as we revealed the bikes adorned with the Firebirds logo, the crowd erupted into cheers.

For Andres, this was more than just a bike—it was his first time ever riding one. As he got the hang of it, his joy was infectious, and soon he was cruising with newfound freedom. Ryan, always beaming with positivity.  After he received his Firebird branded custom adaptive bike by Freedom Concepts flexed his muscles proudly. Everyone could see that Ryan was embodying the strength and spirit that define our Coachella Valley community.

The Firebirds organization, with its unwavering support, made this moment possible. They understand the importance of inclusivity and empowerment, values that resonate deeply with UCPIE’s mission. It’s through partnerships like these that we can break barriers and create opportunities for individuals with disabilities to thrive.

This event underscored the transformative impact of community collaboration. It’s not just about adaptive bikes; it’s about fostering independence, confidence, and joy. Every cheer from the crowd was a testament to the spirit of inclusion and support that defines our work at UCPIE.

As I reflect on this heartwarming experience, I’m reminded of the incredible journey ahead. I’m honored to be part of an organization that makes such meaningful connections and changes lives. Together, let’s continue spreading awareness, advocating for inclusivity, and creating moments that inspire us all.
