At the United Cerebral Palsy of the Inland Empire (UCPIE), we believe in the power of community, support, and empowerment. Our Family Empowerment Program is a testament to this belief, offering families the tools and resources they need to thrive. Today, we are delighted to share the heartwarming story of Vanessa Lopez and her family, who have greatly benefited from this program.
Vanessa Lopez, an office clerk at UCPIE, has two special needs children. Her journey, like many others, has been filled with unique challenges and triumphs. The Family Empowerment Program provided Vanessa with a safe and comfortable setting to share her experiences and communicate with others who understand her journey.
Vanessa expressed her gratitude for the program, saying, «I am so happy to have been a part of the Family Empowerment Program. It allowed me to be in a safe and comfortable setting to share and communicate with others about what my journey has been like being a mom of special needs children. I am grateful for programs like this that help remind me how to take care of my mental health as well as working on communication within my family to help us grow stronger as a unit.»
Upon completing the program, Vanessa received a mini grant, allowing her to select an item that would benefit her children. She chose cameras to capture important family memories, a tradition that holds deep meaning for the Lopez family. «It has been a family tradition over the years to make photo albums and look through them as a family when we are missing loved ones or having a hard day,» Vanessa explained. «The photos are of things that make us happy and now my children will be able to create their own albums and carry on the tradition.»
In addition to the cameras, the family received a laptop, which has opened up new avenues for learning and creativity. Vanessa shared, «They also have a great appreciation of historic events, Lego building videos, and learning fun facts that can all be done using the laptop.»
The Lopez family’s story is a beautiful reminder of the importance of programs like Family Empowerment. It highlights how community support and resources can make a significant difference in the lives of families with special needs. We are proud to have made an impact on the Lopez family and many others like them.
Thank you to the Lopez family for sharing your story and for being an integral part of the UCPIE community. Together, we continue to build a supportive and empowering environment for all.
